In the Dutch colonial period and the Japanese in Indonesia, especially in Java, Karawang is a location used by the fighters to attack the center of the Dutch occupation in Batavia (Jakarta).

In the era of Indonesia’s independence struggle, Karachi become the location of the first negotiations between the President of Indonesia Sukarno and his deputy Mohammad Hatta with the fighters to formulate the independence of Indonesia. Events negotiations conducted in Karawang Regency Rengasdengklok District on August 16, 1945. Indonesia itself independent on August 17, 1945.
